One Transistor Radio      1955      Constructed by Jerry

This one transistor, one AM radio station, hearing-aid battery powered radio stilll works. It was built to only receive the single AM radio station in Alamogordo, NM. Jerry was permitted to install a multi-turn loop of wire inside the bass drum that he played during marching band. This loop antenna was sufficient to receive the one local station during marching band foot-ball-game-formation practices. (A lot of standing around!) The radio also worked well when connected to the steam radiators at the back of the class rooms. (There were several visits to the Principle's office.) This radio uses a high impedance hearing-aid earpiece for listening. The box originally contained brass wood screws.
