Neon Readout Clock 1968 Designed and
Constructed by Jerry Neon bulbs display the hour, the five-minute interval, and the one-minute interval time of day in binary format. The AM and PM bulbs flash at a one second rate. Constructed from obsolete discarded RTL integrated circuits, these 14 pin dual-in-line chips are the predecessors of DTL and TTL chips. There are no advanced integrated circuits, only simple flip-flops, gates, and inverters. Transistors are used for the interface between the 3.6 volt logic and the 100 volts necessary for the neon bulbs. A hidden neon bulb lights up when power has been interrupted. The case was machined from a solid piece of walnut. |
