Can you? 1975
Designed and Constructed by Jerry Can you tell what time it is by looking at this device? Although this looks like a clock and flashes like a clock, it is not a clock. The key component inside is a Sperry SP-151, 3 1/2 digit seven-segment, neon technology readout. (A free sample.) The dual relaxation oscillator circuit causes some of the segments to turn on randomly. It is merely flashing neon lights built inside a very popular Baby Ben alarm clock housing. Jerry built it to taunt his friends. Curiously, folks who know that Jerry has a propensity to build clocks take a very long time to answer the above question. Convinced it really is a clock and that Jerry knows the "secret," they will offer various explanations of how to tell time. Folks who do not know Jerry, quickly answer, "No." |
